These Air Fryer Apple Pies are sure to become your new favourite small batch dessert. There’s nothing quite like a slice of warm apple pie, and with this recipe you can make two individual apple pies in just 30 minutes.
The air fryer often gets neglected when it comes to desserts and baking, but it really is perfect for making a mini treat in no time at all. I love making air fryer brownies and nutella puff pastry pinwheels for a late night sweet fix but these apple pies have well and truly become my go-to dessert.
Enjoy them as is or serve them with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

INGREDIENTS

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own homemade apple pies in the air fryer (full measurements are listed in the recipe at the bottom of this post)…

ButterApples - I used pink lady but any good baking apples will work. Brown SugarCinnamonVanilla Cornflour / Cornstarch Frozen Shortcrust Pastry - or you can use pie crusts or make your own pastry.EggWhite or Raw SugarSpray oil - I used coconut oil.

INSTRUCTIONS

Melt butter in a saucepan on medium-high heat, then add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and stir to combine. Bring to boil, then reduce to simmer and cover with the lid.
Stir every few minutes until the apples are softened to the point where you can easily pierce with a knife. Mix 1 tablespoon of cornflour with 2 tbsps of cold water in a cup then pour into the saucepan and stir to combine. This will thicken the liquid that was left in the pan and leave you with a thick apple filling. Remove from heat and set aside.
Use a cup or jar that is a little wider than your ramekins to cut out 2 circles from the shortcrust pastry.
Spray the ramekins lightly with oil, then press a circle of pastry into each one, gently pressing the pastry with your fingers to mould it around the bottom and sides.
Divide the apple mixture into the two ramekins.
Cut the remaining pastry into long strips and form a lattice crust on top of each ramekin. Gently press the ends of the pastry strips onto the rims of the ramekin. Brush the lattice with the egg wash and a sprinkle of sugar.
Place the ramekins into the air fryer and bake on 160C / 320F for 20 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.

TOP TIPS

You can make the lattice topping directly on top of the ramekins or put it together on a cutting board before transferring over, which is what I did. I used the top of an empty ramekin to cut out the lattice to fit perfectly, then carefully transferred the piece over to the filled ramekin. You could also make it even easier and just cut out a circle of pastry to place on the top. You can use canned apple pie filling for these to save time if you’d like. You can also use the same cooking time to cook store bought frozen apple pies (that’s an even bigger shortcut haha).Go ahead and use whatever baking apples you prefer - pink lady, honeycrisp, granny smith etc. Don’t have ramekins? You can use anything that is oven-safe (and will fit in your air fryer) - silicone muffin cups, mugs or even glass jars.
